Montreal Club Scene

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

I’ve been noticing a growing trend over the last few years that shows just how much bigger the nightlife has been getting in Montreal; as the club scenes’  have been growing and becoming more exclusive, tipping just doesn’t fly with the bouncers anymore.

I’m probably not the first one to notice this, but it’s been taking lots of visitors to Montreal by surprise. I know in some American cities it’s common place to skip long lines and get better service by giving the bouncer a tip, but at a lot of Montreal clubs they’re starting to get more selective. For trendier groups looking to party in Montreal the only way to get better services is to go VIP. Clubbing at the city’s hotspots and bypassing the people who are waiting in line with their names on the regular guestlist is difficult if clubs don’t see you as a VIP.

It can be a pretty big downer on a bachelor party if they expect to get into the best clubs in Montreal by simply tipping the bouncer, only to find themselves stuck outside and having to resort to small time venues that don’t measure up. An important aspect of Bachelor party planning when taking the group to a major nightlife destination is to have someone with knowledge of the Montreal club scene; in this case I take it upon myself as a bachelor party expert to fill you guys in on this crucial detail.

The Golden Age of Montreal Nightclubs

Monday, August 6th, 2007

There are lots of books that talk about Montreal and its great nightlife, but none have ever gone into the city’s past and looked at why Montrealers have always been so big on late night partying.

Stepping Out: The Golden Age of Montreal Night Clubs looks at the culture surrounding Montreal’s nightlife and talks about some of the most popular nightclubs of the time. It’s interesting to read from the perspective of someone who frequents  the best venues today; a lot of the places I visit were built on the site of hugely famous clubs that I’d never heard of till now. Luckily the city hasn’t slowed down one bit; Montreal is still a great place to party and people still come from all over to hit the clubs or have a bachelor party here.

I’m sure the Montreal Nightlife will keep getting more recognition, the fact that there are now books and travel shows mentioning it prominently means the city is moving from being one of North America’s best kept secrets to a mainstream hotspot.

Pubs and Bars

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Often before me and my group head to a nightclub, we get a little pre-drinking done at one of the many great bars downtown. They may not be that trendy, but they can really loosen you up for the night ahead. If you’re in town for a bachelor party, they can really help get the night off to a good start and get you ready for some more intense action at the Montreal strip clubs or nightclubs. The pubs offer a really laid-back environment, perfect for chilling with the guys or meeting some easy-going local girls. The Montreal Nightlife offers quite a few major bars to suit your group’s style and a late last call of 3:00am.

Cheers!

Montreal’s Summer Nightlife

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Starting July 18th, Montreal’s internationally acclaimed comedy festival “Just for Laughs” is going to be kicking into high-gear. This years’ roster includes a lot of famous names, new faces, and old favorites, returning to what is considered one of the most popular comedy festivals in North America. I’ve always been a big fan of the comedy festival, there’s tons of things to enjoy in Montreal during the festival, namely the good free outdoor shows; they’re great when you and the gang have been partying hard for awhile and just want some time to chill and enjoy some late-night comedy.

All my readers know I’m big on the Montreal nightlife, and when these festivals come to town I feel justified in saying the nightlife here is unbeatable in the summer. There are constantly major festivals going on that cater to all sorts of crowds (take a look at this list of Montreal Events), Montreal hotels around now tend to be packed with people coming to enjoy the city, but there are still many areas in town for people to relax. I usually like to have a beer with some friends in the Old Port, getting a seat on the terrace and doing a little pre-drinking before we hit the nightclubs or strip clubs. I know the bachelor party crowd tends to be coming up to Montreal around now, so I got to tell you guys that this is the best part of the year to see the gorgeous girls in the clubs and bars.

Cheers!

Hot girls!

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

If there’s one thing that sets this city apart from any other city in North America it’s the sheer number of hot girls. I’ve been fortunate enough to have lived  in Toronto, Vancouver, and even spent some time in the States, and the situation is very different over there; out of a group of 10 girls you’ll pass on the street maybe three of the 10 will be hot, whereas in Montreal all 10 will be gorgeous and dressed to kill. You could say it’s the French influence or the fact that we’re a very fashion conscious and liberal city – all I know is that no other city compares to the number of HOT women here in Montreal. Montreal Truly offers everything (and more) than Vegas and NYC does in terms of nightlife, BEAUTIFUL women, culture, for a fifth of the cost).

Montreal bachelor party review

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Take a look at this recent article about Montreal Bachelor parties published on Groom Groove’s website. Finally word seems to be getting out in the States that having a Montréal bachelor party is the way to go. The article talks about a local VIP service company “Montreal VIP” which helps people visiting the city plan their bachelor party here with VIP services; this includes VIP access to the best clubs, bottle service, private strip-shows, and a host of other features discussed on their website here (Montreal VIP). They also take some time to bash on Vegas (why are people still going there?) and highlight the bonuses of traveling across the border, such as cheaper costs for similar or better services found in the US.

Grooms Groove is a great resource for people trying to plan a bachelor party for a friend at it’s clearly following the latest trends, such as the tendency to now have bachelor parties as more of a weekend getaway then just a night with a hired stripper. The site talks about the flexible bachelor party packages available for all the different group sizes and price ranges, this helps potential visitors to the city plan out a party that will fit into everyone’s budget while showing the groom a great time.

I’m all for welcoming people from across the border to enjoy the great strip-clubs and nightclubs we have to offer. There are tons of things to do here for people looking for a good time, so I hope word starts getting around about us.

Montreal in the Summer

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

The warm weather is starting to hit Montreal and that means the Montreal club scene is getting even hotter. Everyone knows that the downtown core just gets wilder in the summer, Montreal may have short summers but we make the most of them.

If you’re coming to Montreal for your bachelor party, the warmer weather will keep you guys cruising the clubs late into the night and give you the opportunity to see some of the hottest girls in North America dressing sexier then ever. Don’t believe me? Have a look at the kind of girls you’ll see hitting Montréal’s hottest clubs.

Bachelor Party Drinks

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

No better time to make sure you know your booze then before a bachelor party, especially if you’re coming to Montreal; we here in Canada are very proud beer drinkers, but visiting Montreal and hitting the trendy clubs and experiencing the exciting nightlife scene can encourage you to show off an expert knowledge of drinks. If that’s the case this website The Best Man is a great resource for “Drinkology”; it also has lots of helpful and very general tips for bachelor party planning that no best man should be without.

Planning a Bachelor Party?

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Know what you’re getting into.

Planning a best friend’s bachelor party is an interesting experience, but when you’re not sure what the bachelor wants things can get stressful. Here are a couple of pointers (I got the idea from here) that can help to avoid bachelor party screw-ups:

  • Talk to the bachelor. This is mainly to find out what he really DOESN’T want; this way you’ll still have the chance to surprise him, just with something he’ll like.
  • Who’s going and on what date? You guys got to organize yourselves and find a date where you can all head out.
  • How big a party will be fun without being too crowded? Obviously this varies depending on your plans and where the party’ll be.

bachelor party planning

Make sure you’re clear about what kind of bachelor party you want when you tell your friend to plan it or things can go horribly wrong. Take this poor bachelor :

happy I live in Montreal where my friends can have no problem hiring a stripper. We can head on down to the hottest spots in town and not have to resort to an in-house party, but instead hit the streets and have a blast.
