I’ve been noticing a growing trend over the last few years that shows just how much bigger the nightlife has been getting in Montreal; as the club scenes’ have been growing and becoming more exclusive, tipping just doesn’t fly with the bouncers anymore.
I’m probably not the first one to notice this, but it’s been taking lots of visitors to Montreal by surprise. I know in some American cities it’s common place to skip long lines and get better service by giving the bouncer a tip, but at a lot of Montreal clubs they’re starting to get more selective. For trendier groups looking to party in Montreal the only way to get better services is to go VIP. Clubbing at the city’s hotspots and bypassing the people who are waiting in line with their names on the regular guestlist is difficult if clubs don’t see you as a VIP.
It can be a pretty big downer on a bachelor party if they expect to get into the best clubs in Montreal by simply tipping the bouncer, only to find themselves stuck outside and having to resort to small time venues that don’t measure up. An important aspect of Bachelor party planning when taking the group to a major nightlife destination is to have someone with knowledge of the Montreal club scene; in this case I take it upon myself as a bachelor party expert to fill you guys in on this crucial detail.
